Alfred Kohlberg, Jr., age 88, died on January 15, 2015 after a brief illness. Mr. Kohlberg, and his wife, Ellen Stern Kohlberg were longtime residents of New Carrollton, Maryland. Mr. Kohlberg was active in a number of civic initiatives and took special interest in recording city government meetings and serving on the city's Police Foundation and a park planning body. He loved all communication technology, from photographic cameras to sound recordings, to computesr. He recorded the lives of his extended family through photographs and tracing their genealogya�"and was a devoted husband to Ellen, with whom he loved to travel.
Mr. Kohlberg was born in Bronxville NY to Alfred Kohlberg and Charlotte Dora Albrecht Kohlberg. While serving as Airman First Class in the United States Air Force, he married Ellen Elizabeth Stern in October 1957. He served proudly in the United States Army Air Force and later the United States Air Force, retiring in 1961. His military specialty was news photographer. After leaving the Air Force, Mr. Kohlberg became an operations control supervisor at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. For several years after his retirement from Goddard, he operated an electronics business specializing in the repair of CD equipment.
Survivors include his wife's step-sister, Ellen Tiller, as well as four nephews and five nieces. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ellen, two sisters and one brother.
A memorial service will be held in the spring.
