Battisto, A. George
Amidi George Battisto of Hyattsville, MD died July 5, 2013 at the University of Florida Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL. He was 92.
He was the first born child of Italian immigrants Camillo and Maria Cianci Battisto in Albany, NY. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1942, served with the First Marine Air Wing on Guadalcanal, SI, and later became an instructor at Quantico Marine Corps Base with the rank of sergeant., He retired from the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission in 1992. He was a life long member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Fly Away Radio Control Club. He was a great and giving son, brother, husband, father, friend, and neighbor.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Marion Wheeler Battisto, his son Michael C. Battisto and his mother Mary Lois Williams Battisto, his sister Anne and her husband Al DiBella, his brother Joe (Betty) Battisto, and his sister in law Pat (Mike) Battisto.
He is survived by his daughter Nicola B. Sorenson and grandson Christopher D. Glover of Gainesville, FL, his stepdaughter Donna (Randy) O'Steen and her sons Ethan and Brandon of Point of Rocks, MD, his brother Mike Battisto, sister in law Betty Battisto, and the DiBella and Battisto nephews and neices, all of the Albany,NY area.
A grave side ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday July 14 at Maryland National Cemetery in Laurel, MD. Funeral arrangements were made by the Forest Meadows Funeral Home in Gainesville, FL and Gasch's Funeral Home in Hyattsville, MD. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to a veterans support organization.
