Ann Blotner Marks (81), longtime resident of Hyattsville, MD, passed away November 1, 2021 after a long battle with breast cancer at the home of her son, John, in Huntingtown, MD. She was born July 5, 1940 as a twin to brother James Blotner of Washington, DC, to Fred Milton Blotner and Anastasia Frances Campbell Blotner. After marrying the love of her life, Carl (Alfred) Marks, Sr. in 1962, they settled in Hyattsville, MD to raise their 3 sons, Carl A. Marks Jr., Gary Lee Marks and John Louis Marks, II. Ann was a homemaker who also devoted years caring for her mother in law, Hazel Marks, until her passing in 1987. In her senior years, she spent her time involved in the Hyattsville Historic Tours where she showcased her flower arranging skills and the Aging in Place senior program where she spent lots of time participating in scheduled senior events and projects. Her move to her son’s home, where she spent her final 5 years, was a hard transition for her and she missed her Hyattsville home and neighbors very much, but kept busy with her granddaughter, Addie, and daughter in law, Tammy, shopping. She never passed up an opportunity to go to a quarter auction or a bingo game with her daughter in law. Ann’s siblings were very important to her, especially her sister, Mae, who she spent loads of time with visiting others and shopping. Once moving to her son’s home she never missed an opportunity to get on the phone with her sisters keeping up on the family’s daily lives.
Ann was proceeded in death by her parents, husband Carl (Alfred) Marks Sr., her son, Carl (Al) Marks, Jr. and her twin brother, James Blotner. She leaves to grieve her sisters Betty Haynie, Gladys Tavenner, Grace Ziegenfuss, Mae Fraley(Terry), June Whiston and Carolyn McBee, her brother John Blotner (Mae), her sons Gary Marks and John Marks II (Tammy) daughter in law Rita Marks and her grandchildren Carl A. Marks III, Robert Marks, Gary Marks Jr., Danielle Pond (Daniel), John Marks III, Addison Marks, great grandchildren, Samantha Marks, Carleigh Marks, Carmen Pond, Sawyer Pond, Landon Pond, Ryder Marks and Jameson Marks, as well as many nieces and nephews she loved very much.
The family would like to thank the Calvert Hospice Program and Dr. Kenneth Abbot and his office staff for their care and commitment to keeping her fighting and comfortable as well as many thanks to her Hyattsville neighbors who helped her stay in her home as long as she could by keeping a watch on her for us.
