Aurora Medina Ysern was born in 1928 in Chillan, Chile. Aurora, the youngest of eight children, spent her early childhood with her parents on a large ranch where her mother was the cook and her father was the foreman. Aurora's father died when she was 5 and her mother died when she was 7. Aurora then spent the next 8 years living with her older siblings. When Aurora was about 15, she met a nice woman who offered her a job as a nanny. Aurora accepted the position as a nanny for Dr. and Mrs. Charnes of Santiago, Chile, just before their first child was born. As nanny to Ximena and Gabriela Charnes, Aurora lived as a member of their family for many years and traveled with them everywhere. Dr. Charnes and his family came to Washington DC in the early 1950's on official business, there Ximena and Gabriela attended high school and started college. Aurora met Manuel V. Ysern; they were married in 1961 and bought a home in Hyattsville, Maryland where they raised four children. In 1983, Manuel Ysern died, leaving Aurora and their children. In order to keep the family home going, Aurora began working as a housekeeper for several families in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Aurora's hard work and dedication to her family enabled them to prosper into fine adults. Her son, Victor works in property management and lives in Hyattsville, MD. Her oldest daughter Teresa, works as a legal secretary in Washington DC, and lives with her daughter Crystal, a college student in Bowie, MD. Her middle daughter, Cynthia, works as a Project Manager and lives with her husband Gilbert Lavallee; they have two children, Eric an electrician, who lives with his wife Kasey in Glen Burnie, MD and Katharine a collage graduate who lives in Severn, MD. Aurora's youngest daughter, Gabriela works for NASA and lives with her husband Thomas Diaz, and daughter Nicole, a college student, in Severna Park, MD. Aurora's life was so much more than these few sentences describe. Her personality, tenacity, perseverance, honest sincerity and her love, has touched so many lives. She has left an indelible mark on the world and will be missed.
