Barbara Ann Merkle died peacefully at the Hospice of Chesapeake in Pasadena, MD on November 5th, 2017 at the age of 76.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 35 years, Ronald E. Merkle, stepchildren Christina Schneider (husband Matthew Schneider) and Regina Hodges (husband Wesley Hodges), grandchildren Harrison Hodges, Rachel Hodges, and Emeline Schneider, sisters Bernadine “Deannie” Kelly, Mary “Honey” Bartlett, and Joanne Lubert, and brothers Albert “Herb” Lubert and Francis “Richard” Lubert. She is preceded in death by her sister Rose Thompson and brothers John Lubert Jr., Sylvester “Buster” Lubert, and Paul “Pete” Lubert.
Barbara was born on December 4th, 1940 in Spangler, Pennsylvania. She graduated Spangler High School in 1958, and worked for 30 years in the accounting department of the American Federation of Teachers.
A family viewing is scheduled for Friday, November 10th at 9:00 a.m., followed by a 10:00 a.m. public viewing and 11:00 a.m. funeral service at Gasch’s Funeral Home, 4739 Baltimore Avenue, Hyattsville, Maryland 20781. The burial will occur at 12:00 p.m. at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, 3401 Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, Maryland, 20722. A reception will follow the burial at 1:30 p.m. at the Old Maryland Grill located in The Hotel at the University of Maryland, 777 Baltimore Avenue, College Park, Maryland 20740.
