Bettie Milasuk

August 31, 1917 — May 8, 2010

Bettie C. Milasuk was born August 31, 1917 in Mulvane, Kansas, the last of five children to Theodore C. and Janie R. Conklin. She attended and graduated from the Mulvane Grammar and High Schools and earned a BA in English from Southwestern College in Wichita, Kansas class of 1939.She taught middle school. Then, she worked at Beech Aircraft Industries during WWII to support the war effort. She came east to Washington, D.C. to work for the Federal Government at the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC). She earned full retirement on December 31, 1982, after 33 years and nine months as a "Transportation Industry Analyst" specializing in railroads.She met her husband of 31 years, Emil John, and married on September 14, 1951, in Arlington, Virginia. Bettie was a member of Mulvane United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Start.
Overall, she enjoyed excellent health. The last ten years, she developed diabetes and Alzheimer's (dementia). She passed away peacefully with family by her side.
She is survived by her daughters, Joyce Ross (and her husband Paul), Nancy Downs (and her husband Bob) and her only grandchild, Michael Downs. She was predeceased by her youngest of three daughters this past January, Janice. Bettie enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, local university basketball, and she collected Roseville pottery.
A memorial service is planned at Solid Rock Church.
