On the morning of February 8, 2021, we lost our beautiful and loving mother, Mrs. Blandina Marina Villegas-Gutierrez, at the age of 83.
Marina was born in 1937 to Mrs. Aurelia Avalos-Perez and Mr. Alfonso Villegas-Barajas in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. At the age of 17 Marina came to the US where she met and later married Mr. Jose Gutierrez Sr. in the District of Columbia in 1958.
Marina was only 5 feet in stature on a good day but was the matriarch and center of our family. She was proud to become a US citizen but never let us forget who we were and to be proud of where we came from. She loved to cook and feed our family! We will always remember her homemade Hot Sauce, Tacos and Spanish Rice, which we still can’t replicate!
Marina is survived by her five children, Elvira, Maria, John and spouse Kathy, Linda, and Jose Jr. and spouse, Denise. Marina was also blessed with six loving grandchildren, Tina, Brandon, Joseph and spouse, Gabriella, Jesse, Justin and Emily; and two great granddaughters, Valentina and Lilliana.
Rest easy mom, we know you’re pain free now and with the angels in heaven. I know you’ll continue to watch over us till we see you again.
A public viewing will be held on Monday, February 22, 2021, from 12:30 to 1:30 pm immediately followed by a church service from 1:30 to 2:30 pm. Viewing and services will be held at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Hyattsville.
