Sonny (or Bunky) to all who met him, Carroll Douglas Lee, Jr. passed away peacefully on June 9th, at the age of 92. He left this life exactly as he wished - inside the home he built in 1964 to raise his family, and under a quilt lovingly made by his late wife of 55 years, Selma. He leaves daughters, Lola and Patti, grandsons, Kai and Finn, his sister Laura, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. His kindness, generosity, and humor were legendary.
Sonny earned his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from American University in 1958. Using his wit to maneuver around racial discrimination, he became one of the first black CPAs in 1961. He had a distinguished career with the Naval Material Command, retiring as the director of his division in 1987. He also ran his own accounting firm with a partner, Jerome Broadus, specializing in certifying black-owned businesses for government contracts.
