On Tuesday, January 5, 2016 Chuck Ashurst, 64, of Greenbelt, MD, passed peacefully in his sleep at home. Originally from Fowler, Colorado, after his service as a tele-typist for the army during the Vietnam War, he moved to Alexandria, Virginia, where he started his government career at the Bureau of Public Debt. Later while working at the National Archives, Chuck completed his B.A. in History. In the mid-1980's, he worked briefly as a cab driver, before transitioning to the U.S. Postal Service, where he worked for 15 years, serving in Hyattsville and Riverdale. He completed his J.D. at the University of the District of Columbia in 2000, joining the Maryland Bar Association and practicing family law in Prince George's County.
Chuck enjoyed gardening, cooking and helping others. He was an active church member for over 35 years, the last 4 at St. George's Episcopal Church. He was known for helping others, especially the homeless and disenfranchised. His sense of humor lightened life for many people and he treated everyone equally as a child of God, showing great patience while nurturing others, young and old alike.
