Conrad Howard Haffmans was born on May 9, 1951 in Teaneck, NJ, the second son of Felicia Vincent Haffmans and Henry John Haffmans. He died at Holy Cross Hospital on April 29, 2012. His father predeceased him. He is survived by his mother who now resides in Florida and brother, Edmund Vincent Haffmans of Accord, New York. Conrad's maternal grandmother, Julia Hudak Vincent, was the premiere danseuse of the Milano Grand Opera, the Madrid Royal Opera, the Monte Carlo Casino Opera and the Chicago Grand Opera. His maternal grandfather, J.J. Vincent, was the managing director of the German Grand Opera Company.
Conrad lived many years at Rosewood and then Great Oaks State Institutions. In 1986 he moved into a home of his own in College Park, operated by Maryland Neighborly Networks. For the last 26 years of his life he resided with the MNN program. He worked for many years at Ardmore Enterprises in Mitchellville, MD and for the past few years at Caroline Center in Burtonsville, MD.
Conrad was known for his great sense of humor and for his love of fried chicken, strawberry cake and Blue Sky soda. For the past 35 years, Conrad was best friends with Craig Knoll of Frederick, MD. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew him.
