Dale L. Jernberg, Sr. (Age 91)

On Sunday, April 5, 2015, Dale passed away at his residence in College Park, MD. His beloved first wife, Mary Virginia Jernberg, predeceased him after nearly 60 years of marriage. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Robbie S. Jernberg. He also leaves behind 11 children: M. Patricia Yeatman, Katherine E. Gore, Susan F. Jernberg, Lynne M. Boileau, Dale L. Jernberg, Jr., Glenn M. Jernberg, Ellen T. Wilkinson, Elizabeth A. Rudiman, Angela M. Roberts, Jason R. Jones and Travis R. Jones, as well as 34 grand children and 39 great-grand children. Dale was born 1/15/1924 in Clayton, New Mexico. The middle son of Carl and Beatrice Jernberg, he and his parents and two brothers, Kenneth and Wayne, moved to Washington, DC, in 1936. Shortly thereafter the family moved to the newly developed town of Greenbelt, MD. He attended Greenbelt High School graduating in 1940. He served in the Navy as a Yeoman First Class serving in World War II and was honorably discharged in 1942 due to a disability and married his first wife, Mary, that same year. He obtained a bachelor's degree in accounting as well as his law degree from George Washington University. He was a member of the Bar both in the District of Columbia and Maryland. He worked for an attorney in Washington, DC, briefly followed by a long career in the Trust Department of the National Bank of Washington (NBW). He eventually became president of NBW retiring in 1980. Dale then worked as a solo practitioner specializing in estates and trusts. He was a former Grand Knight Knights of Columbus Sacred Heart Council #2577 Bowie, MD, and a former president of The University Club of Washington, DC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dale's name to the University Club Foundation 1135 16th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20036 or Hospice of the Chesapeake 90 Richie Hwy, Pasadena, MD 21122.
