Dianne Monica Lee was born on February 26, 1942 at the Columbia Hospital for Women in Washington, DC to Carroll D. Lee, Sr. and Elizabeth Thomas Lee. She was her mother's beloved only child and her father's fourth child, the baby girl and his very precocious mini-me. Three older siblings, Vera, Carroll Jr., and Maria, from Carroll Sr.'s first marriage resided in Philadelphia, PA with their mother. Dianne's parents provided her with unconditional love, taught her the importance of family and community, and exposed her to diverse people and experiences. She spent her early formative years in Leesburg, VA and Washington, DC. She often recalled with fondness the experiences she had in both places and how they shaped her life perspective. From her mother she learned the lessons of loyalty and commitment to family. From her father she inherited her "free-spirit", inquiring mind, and uncompromising candor.
Diane graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1960. She attended Federal City College in the District of Columbia and graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. In her pursuit of excellence, she gained acceptance into the Nursing graduate program at the University of Michigan; she graduated with her M.S.N. in 1979. While in Michigan, she taught clinical nursing at Shaw University and Wayne State Community College in Detroit. Upon returning to the District of Columbia, she enjoyed a fulfilling career as a nurse, working at Veteran's Hospital, DC General Hospital, Soldier and Airmen's home, and Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Medical research was her passion and she had the good fortune work as a team member on several research groups at the National Institutes of Health, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Children's National Center, and George Washington University Hospital.
Dianne deeply understood the true value of family and friendship; she developed many close personal and professional relationships over her lifetime. She had a naturally thoughtful and helpful nature that even extended to neighbors. She sought to guide, encourage and support nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends. She visited relatives and friends in hospitals and nursing homes, attempting to impart her very special brand of "AGAPE" love.
She leaves to mourn her loss until they meet again, her brother, Carroll Douglas Lee, Jr and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, neighbors, friends and professional colleagues. A memorial service to honor Dianne's life will be held on Monday, November 2, 2015, 10:00 a.m., at Gasch Funeral Home located at 4739 Baltimore Ave., Hyattsville, MD. Interment will be private.
