St. Leonard

Dolores Jean McQueeney, affectionately known as Dee, was born on December 4, 1948, in Washington, DC. She passed away peacefully on her 76th birthday, December 4, 2024, at the Denton Nursing Home & Rehab Center in Denton, MD, after bravely facing the challenges associated with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia for nearly 15 years.

Dolores dedicated over 40 years of her professional life to serving the United States government, with a significant portion of her career spent at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Known for her eagerness to assist others, she left a lasting impression on those who crossed her path. In addition to her federal work, Dolores was a beloved figure at sporting events, having worked over 20 years with the Washington Redskins in vendor sales and as an usher. Her enthusiasm for sports was evident when she worked during the Washington Nationals' triumphant 2019 World Series win, and her presence was cherished at the University of Maryland sporting events and graduations as an usher.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dolores was a person of many interests and talents. She had a profound love for animals, particularly her German Shepherds, whom she trained with dedication. Her playful spirit was evident in the unique pets she kept throughout her life, including raccoons that would ride on her shoulders during bike rides—a testament to her adventurous side. Additionally, Dolores enjoyed walking the serene shoreline of the Chesapeake Bay, searching for shark teeth and fossils, while her artistic side shone through in her beadwork and jewelry making.

Dolores is survived by her sister, Rita McQueeney Ilg, and several cherished nieces and nephews. Her nephew Ryan Ilg and his wife Melissa share the joy of Travis and Wesley, while her nephew Jason Ilg and his wife Kari have raised their children, Ashlyn, Andrew, and Katelyn. Her niece Katherine Shamel has raised 2 beautiful sons, Austin and Mason. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, Carl A McQueeney and Katherine D .McQueeney, who will be welcomed her in eternal peace.

Her memory will be honored during a visitation service on Sunday, December 15, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by a brief funeral service at 4:00 PM, both held at Gasch's Funeral Home P.A. in Hyattsville, MD. Dolores will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Cemetery in Washington, DC, on Monday, December 16, 2024, beginning at 12:00 PM.

Dolores Jean McQueeney touched the lives of many with her warmth, kindness, and unwavering spirit. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
