Eliza Hoo

March 9, 1921 — June 6, 2013

Eliza Josephine Hoo passed away peacefully on June 6th, 2013 at Holy Cross Hospital, Silver Spring, Maryland at the age of 92.
Eliza was born on March 9th, 1921 to Emma and John Buckle in Albert Town, Trelawny, Jamaica.
Eliza along with her brothers and sisters Leslie, Owen, Lydia (Girlie), Gigianna and Maria were raised in a modest happy environment in the country side of Jamaica. Eliza attended Albert town elementary school where she excelled in music and sewing. As a child growing up her parents bought her an organ which she enjoyed playing especially during her teenage years.
She moved to the city of Kingston to seek work and was employed as a waitress in a Chinese Restaurant where she met the love of her life her husband, Arthur Hoo. Her children Gloria, Shirley, Evadne, Randall, Maria (Cissy) and John were the center of her life. She was a very nurturing mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great, great grandmother.
Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, gardening and playing the organ. She was a sharp business woman and owned a grocery store along with her husband Arthur.
In 1966 Eliza and Arthur migrated to Brooklyn, New York to seek a better life where she was employed at NY Methodist Hospital. After the passing of her husband, she moved to Biloxi, Mississippi to be with her son John and assisted in raising her two grand children Diana and John. Subsequently she moved to Adelphi, Maryland where she lived out her final years.
Our dear Eliza was preceded in death by her loving husband Arthur Hoo and her son John Hoo.
She is survived by her children Gloria, Shirley, Evadne, Randall and Maria (Cissy) and her grand children Everton, Cheryl, Carlton, Nadine, Lola, Elizabeth, Heather, Tan-Lucien, Michael, Peter, Diana and John. Son in laws Orrett Lettman and Gasnel Bryan also mourn her passing. Her grandson in law Jeffrey Taylor was especially close to her. She will also be missed by numerous great and great, great grandchildren too many to name.
Eliza's strong Christian faith reassures us that she is resting in the presence of the Lord .S he will be sadly missed. May she rest in peace.
