Elizabeth Gingell James was born February 16, 1943 in Washington, D.C. to Loring E. and Elizabeth E. Gingell. She is survived by her sons Matthew, 39, and Christian, 34; grandchildren Mireille, 13, Fahey, 7, and Scott, 5, and brother James Gingell. She married Richard A. James in 1965 and remained married until his death in 2014.
She earned a bachelor's degree from University of Maryland and worked for Prince George's Public Schools. As a teacher and administrator at Bowie and Laurel High Schools, she taught home economics, health, and dance.
Known by friends and colleagues as Betsy, Mrs. James was regarded for her sense of style and love for her family. She enjoyed visiting the beach and collecting shells, and running and walking with her family and their dogs.
A memorial service will be held at Gasch's Funeral Home, P.A., 4739 Baltimore Avenue, Hyattsville, MD on Monday, January 18, 2016 from 10 AM until 12 PM.
