Elizabeth Levin

Elizabeth M. Levin of Lanham, MD, 82, retired from federal civil service, died of pancreatic cancer at Providence Hospital on August 11, 2016.
Mrs. Levin was born Betty Nelson in Upper Turkeyfoot Township, PA, where she attended Brownsville High School. She pursued secondary education at secretarial school in Uniontown, PA. She was recruited by the CIA and moved to Washington DC, in 1955.
In 1958 she married David J. Levin and began a 10 year career as a Foreign Service wife, with postings in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Bangkok, Thailand, and Jakarta, Indonesia. The family returned to Washington, DC in 1970. In 1972 she resumed her federal career at the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center, later became personal secretary for the Secretary of Agriculture, and finished her career at the US Government Printing Office.
She was a parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Landover Hills, St. Jerome in Hyattsville, and finally of Holy Redeemer Church in Berwyn Heights.
Predeceased by her husband David Levin. Survivors include her brothers, Robert Nelson of Gore, VA, Darrell Nelson of Lanham, MD, and Dale Nelson of Belle Vernon, PA; six children, Elizabeth Leo of Germantown, Leila Snider of Bowie, David Levin Jr. of Arnold, Ann Moomau of Greenbelt, Robert Levin of the Czech Republic, Catherine Hess of Inwood, WV, and fourteen grandchildren.
Friends may visit on Friday, August 19th from 4 to 9pm, Prayers at 7pm, at Gasch's Funeral Home, P.A., 4739 Baltimore Avenue, Hyattsville, MD. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 20th at 11 am at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 4902 Berwyn Road, College Park, MD. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Summer Project Fund, 4902 Berwyn Road, College Park, MD 20740.
