On, July 25, 2008. Beloved wife of the late Joseph J. Winebrenner; Mother of Louisa (Guy) O. Murray(deceased), Ida (John) M. Price, and John (Pat) E. Winebrenner; Grandmother of Roy, Joseph ("Jody")(deceased), Dana, Melora ("Lori"), Joseph ("J.J.") Kristy, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
Tot Smith was born in Phenix City, Alabama to Rudolph and Olive Smith. She was the oldest daughter of 10 children, 6 brothers and 3 sisters, all of whom predeceased her.
She graduated from a teaching college in Troy, Alabama circa 1926. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse for several years. She relocated in the early '30's to work in the Washington DC Census Bureau.
While living in a boarding house she met her future husband, Joe Winebrenner. It was love at first sight. They were married November 20, 1934.
They lived on F Street, NE for about 18 years before moving to Webster Street, Brentwood, MD where she spent the remainder of her life.
Many of her children and grandchildren remember fondly her talent for telling tales of Alabama's past and her wonderful ghost stories.
She was very family oriented and concentrated on home, husband and children. Her husband predeceased her in 1971. She died peacefully at Kensington Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
