Frank Turano

On November 21, 2008, Frank Turano, a New Carrollton resident, passed away at the age of 90. Frank lived a remarkable life. In the Coast Guard during WWII he was a Chief Radio Man. While stationed in Labrador, he met his wife of 40 years Garetta Brazill Turano, who passed away in 1983. He continued his interest in communications and was a longtime member of the Amateur Radio Club. Frank worked as the Compensation Officer for the District Government for 34 years and retired in 1975. As a sports enthusiast he spent many hours bicycling. He won many gold medals in the Senior Olympics and competed until his early 80's. He served his parish family of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Landover Hills as head usher and as coach for CYO track and boxing programs. Frank graduated from B. Franklin University, now known as George Washington University. He is survived by his loving children, Frank S. Turano, Jeanette Partilla, Bruce M. Turano, Ann (James Cooke) Turano, Donna (Robert) Flores and Marie (Michael) Dunn, his sister Annette (Gene) Christensen, 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Patrick J. Turano, his grandson Shawn Partilla, son-in-law Robert Partilla and daughter-in-law Dolores Turano. Relatives and friends are invited to share in Frank's Life Celebration on Monday, November 24 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Gasch's Funeral Home, P.A., 4739 Baltimore Ave., Hyattsville, MD. On Tuesday November 25th at 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 7301 Annapolis Rd., Landover Hills, MD. A reception will be held in the Burgundy Room immediately following the Mass. Interment 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26th at Maryland Veteran's Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD. Please assemble at Gasch's by 8:00 a.m. for processional to cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, 11331 Amherst Ave., Silver Spring, MD 20902 or Montgomery Hospice, 1355 Piccard Dr., Ste. 100, Rockville, MD 20850.
