Freda Long

Freda L. Long, of Montross, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on September 6, 2022.

She was born on October 3, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Hubert and Frances (Howdyshell) Smith.

Beloved wife of the late Arlie D. Long, Jr.

Loving mother of Arlie (Teresa) Long, III, Mary L. McCool, Clara F. Davis, Hubert (Lorna) Long, Joyce (George) Petrina, and Robert Long.

She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren, Crystal, Jonathan, Stacy, Michelle, Steven, Andrea, Tyler, Robert, Sherrie, Brian, Diane, Tracy, and nine great-grandchildren.

Sister of Allen Smith.

She was preceded in death by her grandsons, Hubert Long, Jr and Conner Sexton, her sisters, Meda Gladwell and Alice Gabbert, and her brother Julian Smith.

Freda was a very nourishing, caring, and kind person. She enjoyed being a homemaker and especially cooking for her family. The holidays spent with her family were important to her. Favorite hobbies were bowling, crabbing, yard work, and gardening. Her flower garden was beautiful to see. She grew many varieties of vegetables and enjoyed canning her harvest and sharing them with her family. She liked reading the Harrisonburg, VA newspaper and keeping up with her hometown news. She especially loved watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy almost daily. Freda traveled everywhere she wanted to go and enjoyed life to the fullest.
