On Monday, December 14th, 2020, Gary Edward Newberry, loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 69. Gary was born on March 6th, 1951 in Cleveland, OH to Clarence and Thelma Newberry. He moved to Maryland in 1971 to pursue a career in the HVAC trade, serving as a technician and dispatcher for Griffith Energy Services for over 43 years. On August 4th, 1973, he married Gail Linn Lauderdale, with whom he celebrated 47 years of marriage this year. Together they raised three children, Angie, Gary II, and Kenny, and cherished five grandchildren, Lexi, Madi, James, Liam, and Charlotte. Gary enjoyed his grandchildren above all things; the memories made with them were among his happiest.
Gary was a helper. He extended kindness and compassion to every person and animal he could. When he wasn’t checking on his elderly neighbors (fixing a furnace here, stopping a leak there) he was providing food — and oftentimes a home — for an abandoned pet.
When the weather was warm, Gary could be found camping in Kentucky with family and friends or, in recent years, fishing, relaxing, and enjoying the beauty of the Susquehanna River on the boat of his future daughter-in-law, Corinne.
He is survived by his beloved sister, Gail Kartune, brother, Robert Newberry, and great aunt Norma. He was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Newberry.
