On Saturday, October 10, 2009 former Montgomery County teacher went to be with Our Heavenly Father. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Greta Long Shippling, daughter Ruth Ann Johns and two grandsons, Ryan and Peyton Johns. He is also survived by a host of relatives and friends.
The son of Adolph and Louise Shippling, he was born on November 14, 1922. He was the oldest of seven children; his siblings, Otto (Tut), Richard(deceased), Edith Frieburg, Alfred (Pat), Ethel (Bernard) Kanski, and Myles (Judy). He also has several nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Johnsonburg (PA) High School, California University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Maryland. He taught in Uniontown, PA., University of Maryland, Montgomery College, and the Montgomery County Public School System at Wheaton High School. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army for four years as a Master Sargeant.
