Helen C. ("Cassie") Galentine, of White Plains, Maryland, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, October 16, 2014. Born on November 14, 1930 in Edmonston, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Lillian R. Barr. She is survived by her loving husband of over 60 years, Clarence R. Galentine; sister, Dorothy F. Hurlburt; children, Ronald R. Galentine, Michael S. (Penny) Galentine, Tina M. (Skip) Swann, Carol D. (Glenn) Jones, and Richard J. (Patti) Galentine; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, her best friend, Beverly A. Long, and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Marvin C. Galentine; grandson, Richard F. Galentine; sister, Dora E. ("Peggy") Proffit; and brother, Charles A. Barr, Jr. Cassie spent her career as an administrative assistant, first at the U.S. Office of Education, then at Besche Oil Company and finally at Gott Oil Company. She enjoyed painting ceramics, working crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble and doting on her family. Cassie will be laid to rest at Mt. Olivet Cemetery on Monday, October 20, 2014, Washington, D.C. at 11:00 a.m. Funeral services are being handled by Gasch's Funeral Home, Hyattsville, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be made in her memory to the Hospice of Charles County, Inc., 2505 Davis Road, Waldorf, MD 20603.
