Helon was born on January 4, 1920 in Clarksburg, West Virginia and grew up in Sugar Grove, West Virginia. She attended public school and graduated from Franklin High School in 1938.
At the age of 18 she moved to Washington, DC and graduated from Strayer Secretarial College in 1940. She worked in private industry for a short time and in 1943 went to work in the US Postal Service headquarters in Washington, DC. She retired from the Postal Service in 1971.
On January 5, 1942, she married her high school sweetheart Everette (Abe) Pitsenbarger who preceded her in death on January 2, 2001. God blessed them with two children, Linda Sue (Perry Weedon) and Mary Helen (Richard Ziehl), five grandsons-Todd Weedon, Barry (Jacqueline) Ziehl, Brett (Lynn) Weedon, Rich Ziehl, and Brooke (Sabrina) Weedon and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving her are her four sisters, Margene Moore, Billie Bowling, Anna Gae Hughes, and Peggy Wade, as well as her brother Tom Mitchell. Preceded in death by one sister, Jackie Trisler, and one brother, Bud Mitchell, as well as a baby girl Weedon granddaughter who died shortly after birth.
Helon was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church and was a charter member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Landover Hills, MD.
Friends may call at Ascension Lutheran Church, 7415 Buchanan Street, Landover Hills, MD on Friday, February 16 from 10 AM until service time at 11 AM. Interment will be held on Saturday, February 17 at 1 PM at Sugar Grove Cemetery, Sugar Grove, West Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Ascension Lutheran Church at the above stated address.
