James Evans

August 24, 1918 — March 2, 2016

Mr. James Evans, age 97, peacefully left this world on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 to join his heavenly father and beloved wife, Margaret Ann.
Jim was born to James Edward Dent Evans and Buena Vista Northern Evans on August 24, 1918 in Emmerton, VA. He lived in Washington DC, where he met and married Margaret Ann. Jim joined the Navy, and when he returned from the service, he and Margaret Ann settled in Lanham where he organized the Lanham Boys Club. He was a boxing coach for the boys club for 28 years, and was recognized for his accomplishments and contributions by state and national organizations. He retired from the C&P Telephone Co as a supervisor in 1981 after 41 years of service.

Jim was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Ann, after 68 years of marriage. He is survived by his four children, sons, David (Betty), Robert (Cathy), Richard (Cheryl) and daughter, Patricia, and 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Friends may call at Gasch's Funeral Home, P.A., 4739 Baltimore Avenue, Hyattsville, MD on Sunday, March 6, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM, where a service will be held on Monday, March 7 at 11 AM. Interment Fort Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Hospice House of Charles County, 2505 Davis Road, Waldorf, MD 20603, or to the Alzheimer's Association, National Capital Area, 3701 Pender Drive, Suite 400, Fairfax, VA 22030.
