James V. (Jimmy) McAuliffe

JAMES VINCENT (JIMMY) MCAULIFFE

May 30, 1936 - August 22, 2024

A long time Hyattsville resident and parishioner of St. Jerome Catholic Church, Jimmy was born in Coom, Cordal, Castleisland, Co. Kerry, Ireland. Jimmy immigrated to the United States in November 1958 and that same month went to work for the Giant Food Corporation until his retirement in 2001.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years. Bernadette O'Reilly McAuliffe, and his brothers, Patrick, Thomas, and Cornelius and predeceased in death by his sister, Elizabeth, and his brothers John and Daniel. Jimmy is also survived by his in-laws, Kathleen and Jack Mitchell, Thomas and Barbara O'Reilly, Ann O'Reilly, Joan McAuliffe, Mickie McAuliffe, and Nora McAuliffe and predeceased in death by Mary McAuliffe and George O'Reilly.

He is also survived by many nieces and nephews in both the United States and Ireland.

Jimmy was an avid supporter of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) and a long-time member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Knights of Columbus.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 29th, 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 5205 43rd Avenue, Hyattsville, MD, 20781, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jerome's Catholic Church or the Sacred Heart Home, 5805 Queens Chapel Rd., Hyattsville, MD 20782.
