John Amos

John Thomas Amos of Rehobeth Beach, Delaware at age 83, passed away in his sleep Monday, October, 13, 2014.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria, and one daughter, Lauretta Ann Amos. John is survived by his loving wife of twelve years Jensie Shumate-Amos. His three children: daughter Virginia Mae & Butch Womersley, son Donald Ray & Patricia Amos, daughter Kelly Marie & David Hall. Seven Grandchildren, Robin Annette & Keith Anderson, Chad Jonathan & Casey Amos, Rebecca Marie & Andre DeMattia, Kristie Michelle & Devon Brady, David Eugene Hall II & Colby Hall, Kyle Martin Amos, Brooke Emily Amos. Seven Great Grandchildren, MaKensie, Nicholas, Natalie, Sara, Hannah, Dylan and Hailey. His many nieces and nephews.

John was born in New Martinsville, West Virginia. He was the son of Thomas Henry and Nanny Loretta Amos. He is preceded in death by a brother, Ransel and his brother's wife, Patsy Amos, and a sister, Mary Virginia, and her husband, Russell Hiett, and many other family members. John was loved by many extended family, Randy & Annette Shumate, Kathleen & Ed Cunningham, and their children, his church family and friends.

John was raised in West Virginia, Washington, D.C., before marrying and moving to Mt. Rainier, Maryland where he raised his family. He worked on the railroad for many years and then worked at Litton Industries before going to work for WSSC where he retired. He then moved to Caroline County, Maryland on the Eastern Shore. After marrying his wife, Jensie, he moved to Rehobeth Beach, Delaware.

While living in Mt. Rainier, Maryland he was a Mason for 60 years at the Collington Lodge No. 230
John was a loving, kind, caring and hardworking wonderful Dad to his family and friends. He was loved by so many people and touched so many lives. He knew his Bible and would preach to his family and friends about the word of God. He will be deeply missed by so many.

John was a member of the Wildercroft Church of Christ, in Riverdale, Maryland for many years until he moved to the Eastern Shore where he helped establish the Lighthouse Church of Christ in Milton, Delaware.

Viewing is being held at Gasch's Funeral Home, P.A. 4739 Baltimore Ave., Hyattsville, Maryland on Thursday, October 16, 2014, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Services starts at 1:00 p.m. with Interment at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, Maryland.
