On January 2, 2012, of Adelphi, MD. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Ruth L. Fletcher-Ferrill; father of William, Barbara, Peter, Anne and Andrew; stepfather of Jeanne Bates, Judy Kiser, Tim, Dan and Ray Fletcher, 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucinda, a son, Thomas and a brother, William Ferrill, SJ and a stepson, Ted Fletcher. Son of Frances and John Harvey Ferrill in San Francisco, CA. Attended Jesuit schools: St. Ignatius High School and University of San Francisco graduating in 1943. Served aboard the USS Elmore (APA43) in the Pacific Theater from 1943-45. Participated in Amphibious Landings in the Marshalls, Marianas, Caroline, Philippines and Ryuku (Okinawa). Awarded the Purple Heart and Navy Commendation Medal. Participated in the Atomic Bomb Tests at Bikini, Marshall Islands in 1946 as CO of the USS PGM (25). Transferred to regular Navy in 1946 while serving as CO on the USS PGM (32). From 1947-50 served as Executive Officer of the USS Tumult (AM127) in the Atlantic and Pacific and on the USS Ingram (DD694). In 1950 attended General Line School at the USN Post Graduate School, Monterey, CA. From 1951-53 was Assistant Anti Submarine Warfare (ASN) Officer on the Staff of Commander Fleet Training Group Guantanamo, Cuba. From 1953-56 was an instructor at the Combat Officers Intelligence Center (CIC) School at the US Naval Air Station, Glenview, IL. From 1956-57 served as Executive Officer of the USS Sigourney (CD643) and participated in the Suez Crisis in 1956. Retired for physical disability in 1958 as a Lt. Commander USN. From 1958 until retired in 1997 was employed as a Systems Analyst for several Defense Contractors in the Washington, DC area. Friends may call at GASCH'S FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 4739 Baltimore Avenue, Hyattsville, MD on Friday, January 13th from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9pm. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 14th at Church of the Epiphany, 1317 G Street, NW, Washington, DC 20005 at 2pm. Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Welcome Table at the church in his name.
