John McGowan Jr

John J. McGowan Jr., 89 of Riverdale, MD went to be with the Lord Friday, April 15, 2011. He was a resident of the Patuxent River Health and Rehabilitation Center in Laurel, MD under the care of Capital Hospice. He was the husband of Phyllis M. McGowan, his wife of 66 years.
Born Sept. 9, 1921, in Windber, PA., he was the son of Catherine and John McGowan. He was predeceased by his four sisters, Mary Catherine Sabo, Eileen Luchinskas, Anne Ward, and Martina Davis. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, John J. McGowan and Patrick P. McGowan, and three daughters, Carolyn R. Swenson, Suzanne M. Rable and Donna J.
Baciocco. He served his country in the Army Air Force during WWII. From 1962-1978 he served as director of music for St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Riverdale, MD and cantored all five Sunday liturgies. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 25th, from 11 am to 1 pm at Gasch's Funeral Home, 4739 Baltimore Avenue, Hyattsville, MD 20781, with prayers to begin at 12:30.
