John Lawrence Moylan

1932-2021

John Lawrence Moylan, loving husband, father, grandfather, and educator passed away peacefully on January 15, 2021 at his home in College Park, MD.  He was born in Montague, MA, was a graduate of Assumption College, and received an MA from The Catholic University of America.  He served in the Army Intelligence Core from 1954-1956.  Hired by DeMatha HS in September 1956, he served as Teacher, Guidance Counselor, Coach, Administrator, and Assistant Principal prior to being appointed in 1968 as the first lay Principal of a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Washington.  He received multiple honors and accolades during his tenure and retired as Principal in 2000.  He remained actively involved with DeMatha in several different roles and left us as Principal Emeritus.

John is survived by his wife of 66 years Joan, children Kevin (Beth), Kathleen, Timothy (Jann), Patrick (Janet), and his six grandchildren Christopher, Nicholas, John, Alicia, Ryan, and Charlotte.  A public Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 24, 2021 in the DeMatha Catholic High School Convocation Center, 4313 Madison St. Hyattsville, MD  20781.  Visitation will be held from 1:00pm to 3:30pm, followed by a mass and a reception.
