John E. Wade, 80, of Rockville, Maryland died March 30, 2009. He was born on February 2, 1929 in Richmond, Virginia to James and Virginia Wade. He grew up in the Richmond area and maintained family ties to Richmond all of his life. He enjoyed family, friends and life from an early age. John was one of six children with three brothers, Jimmy, Bobby, and Everett, and two sisters, Ann and Beulah. John graduated from high school and entered the United States Army and was proud to be a veteran.
After returning to Richmond following his service to his country, John moved to the Washington, D.C. area in 1955. He was married to Joyce Gump for seventeen years. Following his divorce from Joyce, John married Esther Smith in 1969. John and Esther have lived in Rockville, Maryland since their marriage.
John was a stone mason for over 30 years before becoming a general contractor. John owned his own company in the Rockville area. He was loved and respected by all who knew him, worked with him, were a neighbor to him, or knew him in any capacity whatsoever. John especially enjoyed his children, grandchildren, family and friends. John worked hard and faithfully in his profession all of his life and enjoyed people wherever he went. He also enjoyed country music, NASCAR, country gospel and having a good time.
John is survived by his beloved wife Esther; daughter Dale Alewine and grandchildren Sean Alewine and wife Christine and great grandchildren Quill and Tegan Alewine; son Thomas Smith, daughter-in-law Dana and grandchildren Ellie & Sam Smith, brother Bobby Wade and sister Ann Kirtley. Additionally John is survived by his extended family Bill and Maureen Alewine and numerous family and friends. John touched many people's lives and his memory and many gifts will be long remembered and treasured by his family, his friends and the people he knew and loved.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at Aspen Hill Christian Church, 13501 Georgia Avenue, Aspen Hill, MD from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:30 a.m. A luncheon will be hosted in the Fellowship Hall following the service. Additionally, family will receive friends on Friday, April 3, 2009 in the Mausoleum Chapel at Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Avenue, Richmond, VA from 11:00 a.m. until time of graveside service at 12:30 p.m. Military Honors provided by the U.S. Army.
