Kathryn Bunny Ferris departed this life on Saturday April 17, 2021 in Adelphi, MD.
Born on March 26, 1948 in Washington, D.C. to the late Sherman and Stella Moon, she was the fourth born of five children.
Anyone who knew Kathryn knew she was always willing to lend a hand and go the extra mile. Not only was she an active volunteer with the Sonny Frazier Toy Drive and City, Hyattsville City Council, and her grandchildren's daycare center, she took care of her neighbors and friends. She prepared meals, including her famous chicken noodle soup, for anyone in need. With a loving and compassionate spirit, Kathryn brought warmth to family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers through her kind words of encouragement.
In her early years, she held various jobs as a meat cutter, housekeeper, bartender, cook, and babysitter. Later in life, she decided to become a homemaker and caretaker to others--true to her nurturing spirit.
In her free time, Kathryn loved to read, catch up with friends and family, shop, garden, bake, make clothes and blankets, and above all -- take care of her grandkids and other neighborhood kids who became her family.
Kathryn sure had a love for all cars especially fast cars! Cadillac’s happened to be her favorite but she had a way about telling you the year, make and model of a car in less than 5 seconds flat. We are absolutly positive she would have added a classic car to her collection someday however, she would always say she had champagne taste with a beer pocketbook!
In 1981, Kathryn started dating her loving husband, Marvin. Together, they blended their families together Kathy bringing Tina, Kathy, Robert, John, Danny and Marvin, Denise. In 1983 they added Sheila followed by Shannon in 1986. After much teasing from their kids, who jokingly referred to them as "boyfriend and girlfriend," the pair decided to get married on October 24th 2000.
Life certainly was not easy for Kathryn, but her resilience carried her through everything, even after losing her leg. Most would joke she would do better with one leg than any person with two legs! Kathy never let her disability get the best of her, or get her down.
Kathy is survived by her loving husband, Marvin Ferris. She leaves behind her sons, Robert Deal (Glennis), John Deal (Lynn), Daniel Deal (Crisie); Daughters Tina Cummings (Chuck), Kathryn Miller (Brian), Denise Rowley (Armando), Sheila Montano (Fernando), Shannon Ortega (Antonio); seven grandsons, Chuckie, Boo, Ronnie, Justin, Johnny, Jason, Omar, Alex; five granddaughters Lisa, Cheyenne, Kimmie, Jasmin, Gabriella, Jenna, Bella; five great grandsons, Nick, Cole, Caden, Rylan, Bentley (JD III); two great granddaughters, Kaelynn, Natalie; two sisters Stella McKinney, Marjorie Solomon; two brothers; William Moon (Edith), Sherman Moon Jr (Terrie); nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Kathy also leaves behind her beloved dog Jake. Jake was not only her eyes and ears, but he always had a way of maneuvering under her wheelchair as if he were her second leg.
She will be greatly missed by all.
Thank you, Kathryn, for being a loving Mom, wife, grandmother, friend, and neighbor. Your love of music and warm spirit will carry on through your children and grandchildren.
