Aggie Sarvis, 95, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, March 9th, 2011. Aggie was born in Lampasas, Texas, in 1915 to parents Isaac Walderon and Rosa Loflin. After graduating high school in Lampasas, Aggie went to Business College in Burnet, Texas. Soon thereafter she left her small country town in Texas and headed to Washington, DC to work in the Federal Government. There, she met her husband Mack Bishop Sarvis and was married in 1941. They had one child, Leora Maxine, in 1953. Mack passed away 6 years later in 1959.
Aggie began work in the Executive Office Building at the White House in 1956 and retired 20 years later as Chief Correspondent of the Children's Division. She worked in the presidential administrations of Eisenhower through Gerald Ford whom she often said was her favorite. Her work involved answering children's mail to the president, and she had many interesting stories to tell about the letters kids would write.
After retirement Aggie remained active doing volunteer work with the American Cancer Society where she was recognized for 25 years of service. She also received an award as "Prince Georgian Volunteer of the Year." In addition, Aggie was extensively involved in volunteer work at University Park Church of Christ in College Park, Maryland.
In 1991 Aggie moved in with her daughter Maxine and son-in-law David Heath. She lived with them in both West Monroe, Louisiana for 17 years, and most recently in Parker, Colorado for the last 4 years.
Aggie is survived by her brother Harold Walderon and sister-in-law Prima Walderon of Germantown, Maryland, her daughter Maxine Heath and son-in-law David Heath of Parker, Colorado, granddaughters Carmen Marron of Davie, Florida, Leah Gearhart of Aurora, Colorado and great-granddaughters Kylin Trussell and Ava Trussell of Aurora, Colorado. In addition, she is survived by nieces and nephews: Alicia Stennett, Martha Tucker, Barbara Bell, Thomas Walderon, James Walderon and Cathy Walderon.
Memorial services were held at Littleton Church of Christ in Centennial, Colorado on Saturday, March 12, 2011. A graveside service will follow on Thursday, March 17, 2011, 10am, at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, 3401 Bladensburg Road, Bladensburg, Maryland.
