On September 20, 2010, Linda Mona died of cancer at Washington Hospital Center at the age of 60. She was professor and co-chair of the Department of Physical Sciences at Montgomery College since 2000. Dr. Mona was born in Buffalo, NY and grew up in Hamburg, NY. In 1972, she moved to Washington, DC for her graduate studies. She received her Ph.D. in chemistry from the Catholic University of America. Prior to her position at Montgomery College, she was Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the Naval Academy and taught at Marymount University. Linda was the sister of Mary Mack and Peggy Lociccero of New York and Nancy Snyder of Florida. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Laura, Kathleen, Gerald, Karin, Margaret, Kristen, Jesse, Maria, the late Adam Blakesslee and several great-nieces and nephews. She will be lovingly remembered by many devoted friends in the Washington, DC area and elsewhere, including thousands of students who learned chemistry and much more from a totally committed teacher. Teaching was Linda's life-long passion and she was completely devoted to her students. Relatives and friends are invited to join in Linda's Life Celebration at St. Hugh's Catholic Church, 135 Crescent Road, Greenbelt, Maryland on Thursday, September 23 from 9 am until time of Mass at 10:00 am with a reception at the church hall following the services. A graveside service will be held at St. Charles Cemetery in Gardiner, New York.
