It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our sister, Marcia Mary Ewert, just after her 64th birthday, in Washington, DC. Marcia, an example of relentless cheerfulness and character despite a lifetime of serious medical and physical challenges, will be missed by all who knew her. She delighted in creating artwork, which she mailed regularly to a long list of recipients. Marcia called friends and family on a daily basis with a simple message of “I love you!” or “You’re so awesome!” She loved rock music from the 1970s and was always asking for her next cup of coffee.
Marcia lived a life deeply rooted in faith, love, and connection to others. A devout Catholic, Marcia’s spiritual needs were fulfilled by masses, rosaries, and visits with clergy at her last two residences: St. Joseph Kervick in Rutland, VT and The Malta House in Hyattsville, MD.
Marcia was bon on February 24, 1961 in New York, NY. The daughter of Albert Charles Ewert, Jr. and Willma R. Ewert, she was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Robinson, and sister, Nichola. She is survived by her brothers, Albert C. Ewert III of Savannah, GA; Mark V. Ewert of Washington, DC; and Jonathan Ewert of Essex, CT and mourned by cousins, nieces, and nephews with whom she shared her life and her cheerful, loving, and smiling disposition.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Westerly, Rhode Island this Fall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Alliance of Mental Illness (https://www.nami.org/), or to a charity of one’s choice.
May Marcia rest in peace, and may her legacy of faith love, and cheerful fortitude continue to inspire us all.
