Marion Ray Ashlin passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 3, 2023, in Riverdale, MD surrounded by loved ones.

He is survived by his children Shirlana Ashlin-Lanhardt Bowytz (Mike), Scott Ashlin, Theresa Mitchell (Frank), Jennifer Shaver (Winston), and his grandchildren Ashley Lanhardt,  Brandon Lanhardt, and Keith Ashlin.

Ray was born on September 10, 1938, in Sandston, VA  He graduated from Highland Springs High School. He moved to Washington, DC, in the early 1960s and remained in the DMV for the remainder of his life. During his younger days, he could be found playing card games, shooting pool, organizing the football pool at work, and bowling.

Ray had a 53-year career as a pressman until he retired in 2009 from Doyle Printing. He enjoyed his work because of the amazing people he had over the years. He was the union steward for several years. He continues to be part of the annual Nascar pool to stay connected with his former colleagues.

Ray’s retirement was spent taking care of his yard and being a grandpa to the family’s Chihuahuas. During retirement, he made annual trips back to Sandston to visit family and get Hanover tomatoes for family and friends in MD. Ray would often spend his morning catching up on the latest news and pop culture and his evenings filled with Dancing with the Stars, Masked Singer, and Western shows. What Ray enjoyed most was taking it easy, watching television, and dining out with family.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Gasch’s Funeral Home, 4739 Baltimore Ave, Hyattsville, MD 20781.
