Michael Eugene Shoemaker passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at the age of 65. Michael was born on April 14, 1952 at Leland Hospital in Riverdale, Maryland to Preston and Ruth Shoemaker. He graduated in 1971 from Duval Senior High School with his close group of friends known as “the wild bunch”. Michael was always very industrious and worked a variety of jobs in his lifetime. When he worked as Department Head at Woolworth, he met his future wife Diane. They were married for 39 years until she passed away in 2015.
Michael started his career with Prince George’s County Schools in 1984 as a Satellite Leader delivering food to local schools. His success led to promotions to Manager then as distribution Field Specialist, tasked with overseeing operations in his cluster. Michael was a member of Local 2250 in Prince George’s County and retired in 2016. He was a lifetime student of history, loved fishing and his dog, Mr. Boh. Michael’s joyful spirit will be deeply missed by his devoted family and friends.
Michael was preceded in death by his loving wife of 39 years, Margaret Diane Shoemaker. Michael leaves behind his brother David Shoemaker and his wife Peggy, his sister Carolyn Osborn and her husband Bob, his uncle Jack Adams, niece Crystal Mead and her husband Shawn, great-nephew Jason Mead who lovingly called him “My Mike”, sister-in-law Renee Sloper-Yates, niece Destiny DeMarino, cousins Kenny Adams, Doug Adams, Debbie Adams-Fish and husband Ken and various family members.
A memorial service will be held at Gasch's Funeral Home, P.A. 4739 Baltimore Avenue, Hyattsville, MD 20781, Saturday September 9, 2017 at 10:00 AM.
