Misael Orlando Marin, affectionately known as Memo, passed away on May 10, 2024. He was a loving, selfless, attentive, and kind-hearted individual who had a special gift for making everyone around him feel welcome and at ease with his incredible sense of humor. He leaves a lasting impact and smiles on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Memo was born in El Salvador, and after completing his higher education, he shortly met his devoted wife of 47 years, Berta Marin.
In pursuit of a better life from a civil war in El Salvador, Memo migrated with his family to America in April of 1983, to be rejoined with the bedrock of the family, his sister, Felipa, and mother, Rosa Delia. He was an executive steward chef with The Madison Hotel. Thereafter, Memo ventured into the life of an entrepreneur alongside his wife and business partner Berta, selling Jafra products.
Throughout his life, he cherished moments spent with his family above all else. His proudest accomplishments revolved around raising his two daughters, Delia and Laury, and his son Misael Eduardo. One of Memo’s biggest wishes was for his children to accomplish a higher education, and his daughters to become strong, independent women; Memo was able to celebrate as he watched his wishes become a reality. They brought him immense joy over the years, along with his ten beloved grandchildren.
One of Memo's greatest passions was watching Real Madrid, a true “Los Blancos” fan as futbol brought him excitement and connected him with others who shared his love for the game, including his brothers Julio Cesar, whom Memo loved to call Julian, and Jose Eduvijes whom he loved to call Edú. Abuelo Memo would be able to fill up a futbol field with his grandchildren, enjoying an afternoon playing with him as the goalie. In addition to futbol, he always made time for family gatherings, treasuring every moment spent in the company of those he held dear. Other great pastimes for Memo involved watching action movies and cooking a good Carnita Asada or Trucha!
In this time of mourning, we also remember Memo's deceased family members – his mother Rosa Delia, sister Felipa, and sister-in-law Maria Ivonne Marin. Their spirits now reunite with Memo in eternal peace.
Memo's departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him best. Yet, we find solace in the beautiful memories he created and the love that will continue to endure through the bonds of family and friendship. May his gentle soul rest in peace as we honor the remarkable life he lived.
