Oswald (Oz) Otto Beal, 98, of Hyattsville, Maryland, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2025.
Oz was born on September 29, 1926, in Ellerslie, Maryland, to the late Irvin Hoad Beal and Mae Myrtle (Blume) Beal.
He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his military service, he dedicated his career to the printing industry at Editors Press, where he worked on widely circulated publications.
Beyond his career, Oz was an avid outdoorsman and skilled marksman who enjoyed hunting and was a founding member of the Ellerslie Outdoor Club. He had a deep appreciation for nature and took great pride in maintaining his outdoor surroundings. Above all, he found immense joy in spending time with his loved ones.
He is survived by his granddaughter, Jillian Winans, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Beal; daughter, Jdee (Beal) Winans; son, Craig Beal; twin brother, Wendell Beal; brother, Troy Beal; sister, Zelma (Beal) Kelly; half-brother, Bob Wakefoose; and half-sister, Winifred (Wakefoose) Dudley.
A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, at Gasch’s Funeral Home. A graveside memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 16, at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Cumberland, Maryland.
Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of flowers or a donation to the American Cancer Society in memory of Oswald Otto Beal.
