Walker, Pauline Joyce Rifenbark
Concord, NC- Pauline Joyce Rifenbark Walker, age 95, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2013 at the Gardens of Taylor Glen, Concord, NC.
She was born on October 3, 1917 in Glenn Dale, MD to the late Mary Lillian Elizabeth Reich and Warren Paul Rifenbark, Sr. She lived at "The Farm" with her parents until she got married. She attended Glenn Dale Elementary School and attended Upper Marlboro Senior High School in MD. Later, she attended Prince George Junior College and took art classes. She returned to her art studies at Indian River Community College in Vero Beach FL.
Pauline enjoyed living in Greenbelt, MD where Ernest worked as a police officer. Ernest was transferred to Indian Head, MD where he worked as a fireman and in maintenance. In the early 40's he was drafted into the Army and served in World War II. Pauline and Ernest purchased a home in West Lanham Hills, MD where she lived while Ernest served in the Army. Their next home was in Glenn Dale, MD.
Pauline and Ernest left MD in 1971 and built a home at Bethany Beach, Delaware, then back to Glenn Dale, MD when Ernest Retired.
Pauline always enjoyed sewing and made many of her own clothes and even made Sandra Hickerson Kane's wedding dress.
Pauline was an avid reader, enjoyed sewing, her painting, and now and then a game of Skip Bo. She attended church at Parkwood Baptist Church in Concord. Following church you could find her enjoying seafood at the Mayflower.
Pauline moved to Taylor Glen in November of 2002 where she had made many new friends, lost some good friends, and enjoyed good health for many years.
Her advice to those of us today is to always maintain a good sense of humor. She does not interfere in her son's lives and is very accepting of others. If you ask each of the boys who is their Mom's favorite, they will all tell you that it is them. As children, all the boys were given an allowance, except Marty. He would not accept an allowance from his parents, asserting that they were doing quite enough for him already. He worked at a grocery store where his mother was known as "Marty's Mom".
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ernest Walker, whom she married on June 15, 1935 died February 21, 1991; three sons, Charles E. Walker, Jr., Martin Walker, and Gerald (Jerry) Walker; and her siblings:
