Peggy L McCoy, age 96, of Hyattsville, MD, passed away on November 28th at Althea Woodlands Nursing Home.
She was born on April 9, 1925, in Council Bluffs, Iowa to John McCoy and Anna Marie Mitchel. As a teenager, her family moved to Washington, DC, where she attended Central High School. After leaving school, she began work at the US Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (now HHS), where she remained until her retirement in 1982.
She had one child, Rita, to whom she was endlessly devoted. In addition to raising her own daughter, she helped in raising 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Peggy loved life, and squeezed out every ounce of it she could. The simplest pleasures in life brought her great joy. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was the life of any party. She was known to burst into song at every opportunity. She was an avid reader and had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. She loved nature, birds, and "watching her stories."
She is preceded in death by 3 brothers whom she adored, Keith, Kenneth, and Robert (John) McCoy. She is survived by her daughter, Rita; three grandchildren, Noelle, Rachel, and John; granddaughter-in-law Jerushia; and four great grandchildren, Sofia, Nour, Yessie, and Kalia.
Private burial will take place on December 16 at Fort Lincoln Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
