Peter James O’Day passed away on January 27, 2025 at age 68, awaiting organ transplantation. Pete was born on March 30, 1956 as the youngest of eight children to parents Francis and Kathleen O’Day and grew up in Silver Spring and Garrett Park, Maryland. Survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Carmen Parcelli, his beloved sons, Corey O’Day and Sean O’Day, and his cherished siblings, Michael O’Day, Kelly O’Day, Sean O’Day, Brian O’Day, and Kathleen O’Day O’Brien; predeceased by siblings Thomas O’Day and Margaret (“Kitty”) Reilly. He was surrounded by a large circle of wonderful extended family and friends.
Pete was a high-spirited and exceptionally caring individual, always full of laughter and curiosity. He graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Psychology. He worked for many years in residential remodeling and loved figuring out how to build things. He completely renovated his own house in Hyattsville, Maryland and then designed and constructed a spectacular addition featuring a practice studio and workshop. Pete was a voracious reader, with special interests in history and computer science. He was a life-long martial arts practitioner and a proud member of the Wudang Longmen lineage (19th generation). He also shot a mean game of pool.
A Celebration of Life will be held on February 8, 2025 with a remembrance event at 4 pm and reception to follow both at Pete and Carmen’s house, 3811 Nicholson Street, Hyattsville, MD 20782. All are welcome. It’s intended as a party so casual attire is encouraged. Arrangements for virtual participation in the remembrance event will be made; email carmenparcelli@gmail.com to receive the link.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Pete’s honor to Christmas in April (link below), an organization in which Pete participated to provide home repairs for needy seniors. If you are not already an organ donor, please consider becoming one.
