Richard Carl Schrom, Sr. (Age 71) of Beltsville, MD passed away March 31, 2010 at the Season's Hospice, Randallstown, MD. He was the son of the late Frederick W. H. Schrom, Sr. and Lois J. Schrom who owned and operated the Schrom Airport in Greenbelt, MD during the second world war. He graduated from Bladensburg High School in 1956 and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp in June 1957 earning the rank of Corporal. After his discharge, he returned home to Greenbelt, MD where he started his own business "Eagle Iron Works, Inc.", a very successful ornamental iron works business in Beltsville, MD. He was very active in The Lions Club, holding the office of President several years. Through his business, he sponsored a slow pitch softball team winning many trophies throughout the years. He loved nature, fishing, hunting, golf and horseracing. He enjoyed gardening and sharing his vegetables and blackberries with everyone. He was a loving father to Richard Carl Schrom, Jr. and Stepson John Michael Simmons. He is survived by one brother, Fred Schrom and his wife Gerrie, War, WV, two sisters Lorene G. Barry, Gilroy, CA and Lois Bequette and her husband Frank, Frostburg, MD and one Granddaughter Hannah Schrom who resides in Florida. He is also survived by five nephews and many grand nephews and neices. A memorial service with military honors will be held on April 9, 2010 at Gasch's Funeral Home, 4739 Baltimore Ave., Hyattsville, MD. His cremated remains will be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
