Rita Marie Toomey

On Saturday, June 17, 2023, Rita Marie Toomey passed peacefully at her home in Hyattsville, MD. She was the beloved wife of Francis l. Toomey. She is survived by her son, Michael, and brother, Edward Sullivan, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Rita was predeceased by her siblings, John Sullivan, Patrick Sullivan, Bridget and Ann Sullivan. She was a devout Catholic and a daily mass attendee and also served as a Eucharistic minister at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Hyattsville. Born and raised in Waverly, NY, Rita graduated from the Robert Packer Nursing School in Sayre, PA. She served as a nurse in WWII which she was very proud of. She also served as a pediatric nurse in College Park, MD before her retirement. She was defined by her strong faith and love of the Lord.  Her service will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at 10:00am at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church, 5205 43^rd Avenue, Hyattsville, MD. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution in Rita’s name to St. Jude’s Research Hospital Foundation.
