On Monday, September 7, 2015 of Williamsport, MD, formerly of Silver Spring, MD. Beloved husband of Myrtle Myers. Loving father of R. Michael Myers, W. Keith Myers, and Ronald B. Myers. Cherished grandfather of David Matthew Myers, Paul Myers, Will Myers, Philip Myers, Laura Myers, Nicole Myers, and Brooke Myers. Great-grandfather of Patrick Myers, Madison Myers, Donovan Myers, Peyton Myers, and Landon Myers. Sister of Lynn Myers. Proceeded in death by his parents, George and Elma Myers, as well as his grandparents, William and Mary Myers, Columbus James and Irene Smith, and his brother Earl Myers. Memorial Contributions may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, 801 Roeder Road, Suite 800, Silver Spring, MD 20910 or to the charity of one's choice.
Bob was an avid motorcyclist. He found his calling early in life. He started out repairing bicycles for Blalock and then opened his own store, Free State Cycle, selling and servicing Triumph motorcycles. Free State started in Glenmont, MD on October 1, 1960. The store soon moved to its permanent location in Bladensburg, MD and added Honda motorcycles to its product line.
Bob even did some amateur racing, but as he married the girls next door and started a family his racing career was short-lived. Bob and Myrtle were happily married for 63 years and raised three sons, Mike, Keith, and Ron. The boys are all married and have provided 7 grandchildren for Bob and Myrtle to enjoy and spoil. The grandchildren have provided 5 great-grand children that Bob and Myrtle have enjoyed as well.
During his career as owner of Free State Cycle, Bob served on the Motorcycle Industry Council, Motorcycle Dealer's Council, and was instrumental in helping the Triumph workers in England keep the factory open. There were not many vacations during those years, but Bob ad Myrtle did tour England on a Triumph motorcycle.
Bob started a second business, B&M Supply and sold and erected house shell kits. He purchased property in Washington County, MD and erected an A-frame there that he and Myrtle enjoyed for many years. When it was time to retire, Myrtle designed the home and Bob expanded the A-frame and they retired there when Free State Cycle was sold in 1998.
In his retirement, Bob enjoyed several activities including motorcycle rides with his son and grandson. He was a graduate of McKinley Technical High School in Washington, D.C. and was active with the Golden Techites alumni group. He joined the Redman Club in Williamsport, MD and participated in many activities. Both he and Myrtle enjoyed their restaurant.
