Robert Sauer

Robert Richard Sauer, 83, of Heathsville, VA, died on Monday, July 12, 2010. He was preceded in death by his wife and mother of his children, Doris Ann Zook Sauer, and was the son of the late Francis DeSales and Mary Bernice Jourdan Sauer. Captain Sauer was a retired pilot for US Air, formerly Allegheny Airlines, with 23 years service. Mr. Sauer was a deeply passionate and talented jazz musician, arranging and conducting music on his own 18 piece big band in the Northern Neck in 1985. His final public performance was playing his alto saxophone at the wedding reception of his son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Tricia Sauer. He was also a former active member of the Northern Neck Radio Control Flying Club. Surviving is his wife of 29 years, Christina M. Sauer; his four children, Lynn M. Moriarty and husband, Rick, of Amissville, Robert M. Sauer and wife, Tricia, of Leesburg, VA, David E. Sauer of Springfield, VA, and Carol A. Sauer of Rosslyn, VA; two stepsons, Eric E. Ludy and wife, Pam, of Rockville, MD and Matthew M. Ludy and wife, Renee of Chesapeake Beach, MD; six grandchildren, Andrea and Jae Lee, Michael and Elizabeth Sauer, Lauren Sauer and Lillianna Ludy. Family and friends may call on Thursday, July 15 from 6 to 7:30pm at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock, VA. A service will be held at 7:30pm with Rev. Marion Paul White officiating. A visitation will also be held on Saturday, July 17th from 11am to 1pm at GASCH'S FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 4739 Baltimore Avenue, Hyattsville, MD. Interment will be private at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, MD. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Northumberland Rescue Squad, P.O.
