On January 29, 2009, Rodney R. Forbes, 80, died at Hillhaven Nursing Center in Adelphi, MD after a long illness. Born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska, he was the son of the late Clarence and Florence Forbes. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Charmian Clanin. He was the beloved husband of Sarah Allman Forbes, his wife of 50 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five daughters: Rosemary, wife of David Rest; Teresa, wife of Joe Dyer; Cecilia; Carol; and Jennifer, wife of Scott Taylor; and ten grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Roland Forbes and sisters Jackie Angelo and Joyce Nolan. Rodney received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Notre Dame in 1950, and earned his Master of Arts degree from Ohio State University in 1951. He worked for the Department of Defense from 1957 until 1990. In 1973, he was ordained a Permanent Deacon of the Catholic Church. Visitation will take place on Monday, February 2nd from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM, with a prayer service beginning at 8 PM, at Gasch's Funeral Home, P.A. located at 4739 Baltimore Avenue, Hyattsville, MD. A Rite of Christian Burial Mass will be held February 3rd at 11 AM at St. James Catholic Church, located at 3628 Rhode Island Avenue, Mt. Rainier, MD, with interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Rodney's name to St. James Catholic Church or the Alzheimer's Association of Greater MD, 1850 York Road, Suite D, Timonium, MD 21093.
