Sandy Broadwater

1945-2022

Sandy Broadwater, of Riverdale, MD, passed away on December 1, 2022, at 77 years old while surrounded by family at the hospital. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert Broadwater; daughters, Robin (Brian) Parnell and Shari (Ken) Hanscomb; grandchildren, Liam and Kaylee Parnell; and brother, Ray Hess.

Sandy lived in Maryland her entire life. She had a long career at NASA in Greenbelt, MD as an administrative assistant and enjoyed almost 10 years of retirement. While she enjoyed traveling, sewing, crocheting, and knitting; her most cherished times were spent with family and friends.

She successfully fought stage four metastatic ovarian cancer in 2019, and even fit in a riverboat cruise between chemo treatments that fall. She continued to improve, spend time with family and friends, go on additional family trips, and live a very happy life until she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in September 2022. She approached this round of cancer with the same fight and hope as before and started treatment immediately. Unfortunately, she had many complications and became sick very quickly.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 11am at the First United Methodist Church of Hyattsville, 6201 Belcrest Road, Hyattsville, MD 20782. Masks are Required at the Church. Mask will be provided if needed. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to the following organizations, which were important to her: St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Wounded Warrior Project, First United Methodist Church of Hyattsville, and Warrior Canine Connection.
