Sarah Ellen Kenan

Sarah Ellen Kenan, Age 73, of Hagerstown, MD passed away peacefully on September 6, 2024 surrounded by family. Sarah was born June 16, 1951 in Washington, DC the daughter of Thomas Haw and Mildred Muldoon. Sarah married Joseph James in 1969 in Mount Rainier, Maryland. Sarah married Faison Leroy Kenan in 2001 in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. 

Sarah worked as a Nursing Assistant and a Recreational Therapy Assistant at the United States Soldiers' and Airmens’ Home, now called the Armed Forces Retirement Home, in Washington, DC for over 30 years. Sarah loved to cook Sunday meals for the family and could bake anything. She would tend her flowers and garden every day. She always knew QVC’s special value of the day, and was an avid Redskins and Nationals fan. 

Remaining to cherish Sarah’s memory are children, Thomas James, Shawn James, Bridget Myers (Ronnie), Ryan James (Ellen); grandchildren, Shane James, Erin James, Regina James, Joshua James, Jeremy James, Katie Minnick (Gabe), Brandan Myers, Hallie Myers, Leo James, Caroline James, Guy James; great-grandchildren, Bella Cash, Violet Viscarra, Theo Viscarra; brothers, Robert Haw, Thomas Haw; and sister, Elizabeth Aikin. Preceding Sarah in death are spouses, Joseph James, Faison Leroy Kenan; parents, Thomas Haw, Mildred Muldoon; brothers, Donald Haw, John Haw; and sister, Mary Lou Nicholson. 

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 13th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Gasch’s Funeral Home located at 4739 Baltimore Ave, Hyattsville, MD. A private burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery.
