Friends and family are mourning the loss of Sharon J. Travis. She died peacefully at her home in Cheverly, Maryland on December 26, 2011 at age 71 after a courageous battle with neuroendocrine cancer. She is survived by three sisters, two brothers, many nieces and nephews, and longtime housemates Carolyn Cornelius and Mary Toborg. After her retirement from the National Security Agency in 1995, she revitalized Meals on Wheels of Cheverly and served as its President for 10 years. She also was actively involved in volunteer work with Friends of the Bladensburg Library. Her leisure time activities included travel, reading, bird and butterfly watching, walking on the beach on Jekyll Island, staying at her cabin in West Virginia
