Susanna Yatman

On Saturday, November 12, 2016, Susanna Cristofani Yatman of Bostwick in Bladensburg, Maryland died at her home in St. Leonard, Maryland, where she resided since 1996, after a 3-year battle with ovarian cancer. Mrs. Yatman is survived by her husband of 30 years, Timucin K. Yatman and her cat, Heidi and was preceded in death by her parents, Susanna K. and Felix E. Cristofane. She loved life and traveled with her husband to all 7 continents. She graduated from Bladensburg High School in 1959 and graduated from the University of Maryland with a BS degree. Mrs. Yatman belonged to the Dentsville 4H Club where she raised broilers and won first prize for 3 years in State Wide Competitions. She worked at the Government Printing Office, General Services Administration, managed Out Island Hotel in South Andros, Bahamas and also worked for the Department of Education and National Labor Relations Board; she was also owner of 3 World Gyms in St. Mary's County. Mrs. Yatman was Councilwoman and Mayor of Bladensburg, MD. She was active in the Historic Preservation Society and Pets on Wheels. She was a member of the Prince George's Heritage and Calvert County Preservation Commission, the Grand Encampment Museum in Encampment, Wyoming, the Living History Foundation and a life member of the Prince George's Historical Society. Mrs. Yatman performed colonial dancing locally and at the Kennedy Center and in Williamsburg, Virginia. She also enjoyed horseback riding from an early age. She will be missed by her husband, her NY state relatives and her loving and supporting friends who were her strength and comfort. Friends may call at Gasch's Funeral Home, P.A., 4739 Baltimore Avenue, Hyattsville, MD, on Wednesday, November 16 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Fort Lincoln Cemetery on Wednesday, November 16 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grand Encampment Museum P.O. Box 43, Encampment, WY 82325.
